Taekwondo Black Belt Testing
Testing for your black belt in Taekwondo is an exciting event. It can take as little as 2 years and sometimes up to several years to reach the level of expertise where you are ready to test for your black belt. And, this all depends on how frequently you attend classes and how dedicated you are to mastering the sport.
In all martial arts schools, you will need to move up the belt ranks before reaching black. In general, (but it can vary depending on the school) you will go from white to yellow to orange to green to red and then to black. And, the testing itself can be quite grueling. You need to be physically fit as well as know your stuff.
The testing period may take place over a couple of days consisting of a written test and a physical test. The physical test itself can take 4 to 6 hours and will cover everything you’ve learned up to that point including, taegeuks, step sparring, board breaking, kicking pads and more.
But it is all worth it in the end for the sense of accomplishment you will feel. Below is a video featuring a young woman testing for her black belt.
