Taekwondo at the Olympics
The Taekwondo events of the 2016 Olympics in Rio were shown on t.v. just this past week. It was exciting for those of us in the TKD community to watch a sport we love so dearly being shared with the world. Of course South Korea won the most medals (2 Gold & 3 Bronze) as you would expect given that this martial art originated in Korea.
Unfortunately, Canada did not win any medals in Taekwondo at the 2016 Rio Olympics but we did win medals in Sydney and Beijing. In any case, it is great to see Taekwondo represented at the Olympics because that wasn’t always the case. The sport only became a part of the Olympics in 1988 at Seoul South Korea summer games.
So, to celebrate all those Taekwondo athletes who competed in the Olympics in Rio, below is a video compilation for you to enjoy. Please note that this video is a compilation from the London 2012 Olympics due to fact that there are legal restrictions which prevent the use of footage from the 2016 Olympics at this time.
Whether you have Olympic dreams or not, Taekwondo is both a fun sport and a great way to get fit. Consider attending a free trial class to experience it with D’Souza Martial Arts Academy.
