Ever wondered the difference between WTF vs. ITF Taekwondo? Both WTF and ITF refer to the two main governing bodies for Taekwondo.
Both of these styles of Taekwondo have their origins in Korean martial arts and are very similar but the focus of WTF is for sport and the focus for ITF is for self defence. WTF is the Taekwondo style used in the Olympics.
Both WTF and ITF schools participate in tournaments but the rules for sparring vary. In addition, there are some variations in the ways that kicks, blocks and punches are executed. Further, the patterns that are taught are somewhat different.
Whichever Taekwondo school you choose, make sure that it is affiliated with either WTF or ITF so that you will know that you are receiving quality instruction and training.
